Getting Away With Murder

Let see, the American people have curled up by their TV's and watched a populace starved by sanctions for over twelve years, comprised of 50% children, be threatened first with "shock and awe" and then a litany of the number of missles that would strike Baghdad to achieve their "regime change." (Anyone ever think of offering each Iraqi a million bucks and walking in???)
All the while a report from RAND naming Saudi Arabia as the number one terror state is quickly shoved under the carpet and the distraction (and slaughter) in Iraq labors on.

http://www.alternet.org/rights/32647/

Alternet asks some questions about what Bush is planning to do to Americans, having sold most of the jobs, driven the country into massive debt and a war without end, he has achieved more than any enemy could every have openly achieved.

Not that George W. Bush needs much encouragement, but Sen. Lindsey Graham suggested to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales a new target for the administration's domestic operations -- Fifth Columnists, supposedly disloyal Americans who sympathize and collaborate with the enemy.
"The administration has not only the right, but the duty, in my opinion, to pursue Fifth Column movements," Graham, R-S.C., told Gonzales during Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on Feb. 6.
"I stand by this president's ability, inherent to being commander in chief, to find out about Fifth Column movements, and I don't think you need a warrant to do that," Graham added, volunteering to work with the administration to draft guidelines for how best to neutralize this alleged threat

"Senator," a smiling Gonzales responded, "the president already said we'd be happy to listen to your ideas."
In less paranoid times, Graham's comments might be viewed by many Americans as a Republican trying to have it both ways -- ingratiating himself to an administration of his own party while seeking some credit from Washington centrists for suggesting Congress should have at least a tiny say in how Bush runs the War on Terror.
But recent developments suggest that the Bush administration may already be contemplating what to do with Americans who are deemed insufficiently loyal or who disseminate information that may be considered helpful to the enemy. Top U.S. officials have cited the need to challenge news that undercuts Bush's actions as a key front in defeating the terrorists, who are aided by "news informers," in the words of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.---------------

Texas Tells Tom - "Don't Let the Door Hit You..."

A double dealing Delay, the consumate money grubbing, holier than thou Republican crook that makes up this administration of thugs and dead enders.

Next we will hear some scapegoating, hatefilled rant smearing everyone but him and accusing activist judges of working against (gasp) him.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/04/19/texas-monthlys-_n_19386.html

It was early in January when Eric Thode got the phone call from a member of Tom DeLay’s staff. Thode was a little surprised to hear from DeLay. As the chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican party, Thode was responsible for running the March 7 primary election, but that was two months away, and he expected DeLay to win easily against three opponents. Surely DeLay wasn’t concerned about it. So what could the eleven-term congressman from Sugar Land, the majority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, want to know?
As Thode remembers the conversation, the staffer said DeLay was “contemplating his possibilities.” What if he were to win the primary with a less-than-solid showing? What if Ronnie Earle, the Travis County district attorney who had secured two felony indictments against DeLay involving the misuse of corporate funds to help Republican state legislative candidates in the 2002 election cycle, was able to win a conviction before the 2006 election? What if something happened in the federal corruption investigation of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, whom DeLay had once described as one of his closest friends? If any of these circumstances came to pass, the Democrats could win the seat. His seat.

Delay is also linked to Jack Abramoff, recently sentenced to six years in jail for money laundering, and you can bet Jack got off lightly given the information is about to unload on the Bush boys.

Yup this is essentially how the Bush administration treats the entire justice system, as a joke. But then look at them and they were appointed by the "justice" system.

The ONLY way to clean up after this bunch is put the lot - STARTING AT THE TOP - in jail for a l-ong time.

Otherwise America will continue sweeping the foreign policy of narcissistic psychopath under the rug and continue to deny its own terrorism.

The Southern Daily News ...

Theologian Says It's Time for Civil Disobedience

By Wilson RayNEW ORLEANS, La., Oct. 26 (PS) — It is time for civil disobedience on the part of Christians, Jews and Muslims to protest the growing disparity between the rich and the poor, especially in the United States under an administration which claims to work on behalf of God, says a prominent theologian and a Nobel Prize laureate. "I think it may come to that. I really do," Joseph C. Hough said on Bill Moyers' public television show NOW.

Hough, the son of a Baptist preacher, is former dean of the Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville now serving as president and William E. Dodge Professor of Social Ethics at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. George A. Akerlof, the 2001 Nobel Prize laureate who teaches economics at the University of California in Berkeley, also recently lashed out at the government of President George W. Bush, calling it the "worst ever" in American history. "I think this is the worst government the U.S. has ever had in its more than 200 years of history. It has engaged in extraordinarily irresponsible policies not only in foreign policy and economics but also in social and environmental policy," he said. "Now is the time for people to engage in civil disobedience. I think it's time to protest — as much as possible." Moyers asked Hough to react to Akerlof's statement. "The only way to promote your cause is civil disobedience and the willingness to take the consequences for it," Hough said. "And I think we're just about there." Hough said there is a definite, intentional move on the part of political leadership in this country in a direction that is not compatible with the prophetic tradition in Islam, Christianity or Judaism. "The growing gap between the rich and the poor . . . has become almost obscene by anybody's standards," he said. He also attacked the "stated intentional policy of bankrupting the government" by anti-government political conservatives. "Those who oppress the needy insult their maker," he said, quoting from Proverbs. "It would be a wonderful thing if we could stand together, these three great Abrahamic traditions, and say, 'Look, we do not countenance this sort of thing. It is not only unfair, it is immoral on the basis of our religious traditions, and we believe it's an insult to God.'" He said it is a deep and profound theological issue, and has to do with "whether we are faithful to the deepest convictions called for by our faith." The followers of Jesus saw to it that people who didn't have enough to eat could come to that table and get enough to eat, he said, quoting from Acts. "That was the radical model they put out there," he said. "Nobody likes to talk about that very much."

He called on all those from the "Abrahamic traditions" who share this conviction about care for the least fortunate to "simply make some kind of public declaration that enough is enough."

In addition, he said it is not in the spirit of American democracy to generate inequality, and to contradict equal opportunity in our society. "Those are not the norms we've lived by," he said. Moyers asked about the paradox that the immoral policies were enacted by a Congress and an Administration "elected to a significant degree with the support of the religious right." Hough responded by attacking House Majority Leader Tom Delay and corporate salaries.
Jesus said, "By their fruits, you shall know them," Hough said. "The policies of this country are disadvantaging poor people every day of our lives." "There is no justification under Heaven for some corporate executives to make 1,000 times as much as their average worker," he said. He cited Amartya Sen, a development economist and a Nobel Prize winner, who says that no society can claim to be fair if there are substantial number of its citizens who are not receiving enough assistance or income to have the "capability to function." That means, he said, to be able to buy food, have a place to live, have their children educated, reasonable health care and a job. He said making this happen should be the litmus test for anyone running for public office.

"Enough is enough," he said. "Let's stop this business, and let's look again and ask the question, 'What will really make this a country that we can be proud of, and one that pays attention to all the people, not just a few.'" It is clear now that the Bush administration has catered to the religious community to a greater extent even than former President Ronald Reagan catered to the Moral Majority in the 1980s. The New York Times weighs in today with this story about how evangelicals hold unusual sway with the Bush White House. At the same time, the White House still fails to come clean by releasing all the relevant intelligence documents related to 9/11. But the Senate Democrats continue to pound this administration on leaking the name of a CIA agent for political purposes. Meanwhile, more than 10,000 protestors converged on Washington, D.C. this weekend to demand the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. I've already laid out my case for civil disobedience. What are you doing to change the world for the better this week? Shoot me an e-mail and let me know. You might start simply by boycotting Wal-mart, where low wages and the use of illegal immigrants is now making the news. Moyers' also ran stories this past week on downward mobility and income disparity in America.

TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 2004UNACCEPTABLE COSTS OF GLOBALIZATION AND EMPIRE
If "globalization is inevitable," why does it require military might, including a "war against terrorism" and increasing corporate power and government interventions to effect this transition?

Has the current impetus to global empire undermined international law and human rights? Has the logic of redemptive violence (the gods favor those who conquer) become a self-fulfilling prophesy that creates more violence? Is the logic of empire in conflict with all spiritual traditions and human rights standards?

The G8, and the American Congress, should create investigative commissions into the atrocities of the 'war on terrorism' and start down a new path toward an inclusive and democratically open approach to world peacekeeping.

9:00 - 10 am, June 8, 2004 Welcoming Ceremony

- Susan Hunt -- Welcome- Pastor Zack Lyde - Invocation, recognition of local organizers- Trent Schroyer - Introduction of Walter Wink

10 - 11:00 am, June 8, 2004 (PLENARY ADDRESS)"GLOBALIZATION AND EMPIRE: WE HAVE MET THE EVIL EMPIRE AND IT IS US" Walter Wink

"We will test the value of a theological perspective simple enough for most people to utilize to understand and engage the Powers That Be. Quite simply, the Powers are good, the Powers are fallen, the Powers can be transformed. This framework makes possible a critique of domination that can be applied to the confluence of 'globalization from above' and American imperialism. Like two converging glaciers slowly mingling with each other, these massive forces have created the greatest concentration of economic and political power the world has ever known. Can it be humanized?"

Walter Wink is Professor of Biblical Interpretation, Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City. Previously, he was a parish minister and taught at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1989-1990 he was a Peace Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace. The author of many books, including the award winning Engaging the Powers and The Human Being: Jesus and the Enigma of the Son of the Man, Walter and his wife June Keener Wink have led peace workshops all over the United States and Canada, as well as in New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, South Korea, East and West Germany, England, Scotland and Ireland.

Manufacturing takes place in Central America. The new countries in the former USSR are a source of both raw materials and labor. In China, work is done by children. All these countries deserve a voice. And respect (re = again, respect = look at these people openly). They also deserve to share in decision-making, to be a part of the economic community, and to share profits with their people, including their women and children. They deserve medical care, education, shelter, food, and above all, respect.

1:15 - 2:45 pm, June 8, 2004 "NONVIOLENCE FOR THE VIOLENT " (WORKSHOP)Facilitator: Walter Wink

This is a workshop for those of us who would like to become nonviolent in both our personal and social lives, but who doubt our ability to achieve it. Jesus, Gandhi, and King show us how to engage in nonviolent struggle without becoming violent ourselves; how to overcome domination without becoming dominators; and how to become spiritual activists without being turned into the very thing we hate.
Bringing democracy to the world:

First they threaten with "shock and awe" (that is NOT terror eh?), then they bomb the shit out of a country with no airforce where half the population are children.

Can someone tell me WHY they are torturing anyhow. They stood down for 9/11, and escorted 300 Saudis from the country. Why are they torturing Iraqis - for defending their own damn country?

War criminals unprosecuted, unchecked, and particularly unbalanced.

Bringing corporate global domination to the people, by the few who think they should RULE us.

Make no mistake about it (as mr. bush is so fond of saying)
the axis of evil is in the mirror mr. bush, and the TOE in the door is about to become a foot, quickly followed by a live body with a summons.

Most of us do not want your vision of a warped, corrupt, corporate jesus, we prefer the good samaritan, the Prince of Peace, who fed the poor, spoke of love and encouraged us to see the God in each of us.

Jesus said, "My ways are not of this world"

Boy he wasn't kidding.

Now let's roll and go kick some corporate butt. How DARE these cretins of commerce think they can RULE us. How DARE they.

Harper Moves to Hide the Bodies

Today, like George Bush, Stephen Harper moved to limit press access to military funerals and the return of bodies from
Afghanistan, where they guard the Bush CIA poppy crop.
(Gee are they starting to smuggle drugs in the bodies the way they did in Viet Nam?)

While the world recoils from this sick administration, we have a prime minister rushing to clone himself in Bush's shadow.

htttp://www.intheirownwords.ca/harper.html

In Harper's own words:
"Then there is the Progressive Conservative party, the PC party, which won only 20 seats. Now, the term Progressive Conservative will immediately raise suspicions in all of your minds. It should... They were in favour of gay rights officially, officially for abortion on demand. Officially -- what else can I say about them? Officially for the entrenchment of our universal, collectivized, health-care system and multicultural policies in the constitution of the country."
- Conservative leader Stephen Harper, then vice-president of the National Citizens Coalition, in a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for National Policy, a right-wing American think tank.

Fuhrer Harper, has banned the media from military funerals, hardly meets with them for press conferences and almost daily has issued edicts limiting public or press access to government.

But then, THIS (to the left) - is his "shining light"

mr. Bush is clearly shown by facts published all over the web, to be a fraudulent president orchestrating a fraudulent war using a cult based religion as a money laundry. To state publically that this is what Harper honors over OUR Canadian values - well, that doesn't seem terribly democratic, christian, OR patriotic and it certainly is NOT Canadian.

Finally mr. harper, if you want to vote on my civil rights - do I get to vote on yours?

Psychopathic Presidency

Many of us wonder aloud at the psychopathic narcissistic nature of American policy and the people carrying it out. We are not alone - the web is buzzing about the "normalization of psychopathic narcissism under the Bush administration.

http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/10/23/54417/948

Psychopaths have no regard for the truth and according to Dr. Hare "Lying, deceiving, and manipulation are natural talents for psychopaths... When caught in a lie or challenged with the truth, they are seldom perplexed or embarrassed...they simply change their stories or attempt to rework the facts so that they appear to be consistent with the lie."
Bush's lies about Iraqi WMD and ties to al Qaeda have become legendary. According to Bush "We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories...For those who say that we have not found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they're wrong, we found them." (CBSNEWS.com) Score two for Bush.

One of the characteristics of a psychopath is the ability to charm and seduce followers or in this case the public. They lie convincingly and are seldom perplexed or embarrassed when caught in their deceit smoothly changing their story. Lies are the main weapon in their arsenal for manipulating others.

One example of manipulation occurred when President Bush distorted the words of former President Jimmy Carter to win support for the invasion of Iraq. President Bush claimed that the former President offered support for the invasion of Iraq when, in fact, Carter concluded that "as has been emphasized vigorously by foreign allies and by responsible leaders of former administrations and incumbent officeholders, there is no current danger to the United States from Baghdad." (Washington Post)

<

Hitler used "the BIG LIE" (Goebbels) then catapaulted the propaganda by repeating it over and over again.

Inbetween hunting and shooting people, ol Dick and George enjoy another five week vacation at the ranch.

The Great DECIDER (as he calls himself)

A shallow emotional response refers to the psychopath's limited range and depth of emotions. People in general can feel fear, sympathy, sadness because we can place ourselves in the experience of others and imagine how they would feel. A psychopath does not have this capacity although he can imitate feelings. The emotional poverty, the complete lack of real emotions such as sadness, mourning, fear, guilt, remorse and empathy is replaced by weak and infantile drives displaying themselves theatrically in the absence of ordinary inhibitions.
President Bush lacks the capacity to feel sadness for the loss of lives that are a direct result of his decisions. Author E. L. Doctorow refers to an incident in which "...You see him joking with the press, peering under the table for the weapons of mass destruction he can't seem to find." Despite the fact that over 1600 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis have lost their lives so far and countless numbers of Americans and Iraqi have suffered horrible injuries, the president was capable of joking around about the missing weapons of mass destruction." Score two for Bush.

The psychopath has an inflated view of his self-worth, is self-assured, arrogant and a braggart.

Michael Hersh, an Online Journal contributing writer claims that "Bush's sense of unquestionable authority drives him out of control when anyone defies him..." and that "...Bush has embraced this notion of Biblical mission, and now operates with an absolute sense of supreme authority." (September 12, 2002)

In addition, an important part of the fundamentalist constituency that supports Bush, Pat Robertson, pointed out on the Paula Zahn Show Now, October 21, 2004, that Bush is "the most self-assured man I've ever met in my life."

Walter Cronkite, retired CBS anchor and the "most trusted man in America" reported that Bush's "arrogance" with respect to our allies "has been exceptional."
(The Hanover Eagle, Anna Weisgerber, March 27, 2003)

As Bob Woodward reveals in his book, Bush at War, Bush pontificates in an interview that "I'm the commander...see, I don't need to explain." Score two for Bush.

An excessive need for novel, thrilling and exciting stimulation is a common trait of psychopaths.
In a New York Times article written by Maureen Dowd, George W. reveals through the following quotes that he has a serious attention problem and is therefore prone to boredom and in need of constant stimulation:

"I find my mind wandering from tasks that are uninteresting or difficult;"
"I make quick decisions without thinking enough about their possible bad results;"

His workday as Governor of Texas, as told by his former chief of staff, Clay Johnson, is "two hard half-days" during which "He puts in the hours from 8 to 11:30 A.M., breaking it up with a series of 15-minute meetings, sometimes 10-minute meetings, but rarely is there a 30-minute meeting...At 11:30 he's `outtahere'....[when he goes] over to the University of Texas track or run a three to five miles...return to the office at 1:30, where he'll play some video golf or computer solitaire until about three, and then it's back to the second `hard half-day' until 5:30." Score two for Bush.
...
Psychopaths have very week control over their emotions and in particular annoyance and anger. They are prone to outbursts of irritability, impatience, threats, aggression, anger and verbal abuse. President Bush's inability to control his feelings is legendary:
"During the interview, given on Thursday in Washington, Bush displayed annoyance and at one point lost his temper when he was contradicted by Irish journalist Carole Coleman." (EU Business);

"Bush's short-fused fiery temper under daily stress, especially from the news media." (Jerry Mazza, Online Journal);

"Bush's sense of unquestionable authority drives him out of control when anyone defies him." (Mike Hersh, Online Journal)

These popular perceptions are confirmed by his own former speechwriter, David Frum, who admitted that: "He is impatient and quick to anger, sometimes glib, often dogmatic." Score two for Bush
Psychopaths experience many superficial sexual relations, are indiscriminate about their sexual partners, and have a history to sexually coerce others into sexual relations. There is no substantiated evidence of the above behaviour. Score zero for Bush.

Psychopaths usually have a history of behaviour and academic difficulties. As a child, they exhibited aberrant behaviors such as lying, stealing, cruelty to people or animals and vandalism.
There were a number of behavioral mishaps during Bush's childhood that were indicative of a troubled person. When he was at school, he threw a football through a third-grade classroom window after being told to stay inside during the rain, sold false ID's to fellow students so that they could purchase alcohol and he was arrested for carrying out Halloween pranks. (Bush on the couch, Justin Frank, professor of psychiatry) Terry Throckmorton, a childhood friend of Bush, recalled how after a good rain thousands of frogs would come out and "Everyone would get BB guns and shoot them. Or we'd put firecrackers in the frogs and throw them up and blow them up." (Animals in Print, the On-Line Newsletter) Score two for Bush.
The psychopath cannot accept responsibility for his self-destructive behaviour or for the harm he inflicts on others. He will usually deny categorically any responsibility for his actions and will transfer the blame elsewhere.
...
President Bush has produced a procession of lies to justify the invasion of Iraq. As each justification was exposed as invalid, he introduced a new lie to prove the necessity of the invasion. The first justification was WMD, then it was ties to el Qaeda, purchasing nuclear material, removing Saddam and finally building a democracy in Iraq with a few more lies thrown in for good measure. When it was abundantly clear that Iraq did not possess weapons of mass destruction he continued to lie about it until he was forced to invent a new lie. When Joseph Wilson reported that Niger was not selling uranium to Iraq, he still mentioned it in his State of the Union address. He never accepted responsibility for using any of those justifications but instead, he lied more. Score two for Bush.

And the beat goes on, while congress sits mute - the paid off pawns of corrupt corporations, unable to enforce the law.

Do YOU Think Bush Will Bomb Iran?

Seymour Hersh: Bush's War Plans for Iran Include Nukes

by Steven D

Sat Apr 8th, 2006 at 10:43:28 AM EST

The New Yorker has a new article from Seymour Hersh in which he examines the question:

Would President Bush go to war to stop Tehran from getting the bomb? Here's his lead paragraph:

The Bush Administration, while publicly advocating diplomacy in order to stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon, has increased clandestine activities inside Iran and intensified planning for a possible major air attack. Current and former American military and intelligence officials said that Air Force planning groups are drawing up lists of targets, and teams of American combat troops have been ordered into Iran, under cover, to collect targeting data and to establish contact with anti-government ethnic-minority groups. The officials say that President Bush is determined to deny the Iranian regime the opportunity to begin a pilot program, planned for this spring, to enrich uranium.

Well, when Seymour Hersh talks, I listen. He has sources in the military and among the intelligence community that few other reporters can match. He has also invariably been proven right regarding his reporting, from our failure to capture Osama in Afghanistan to the torture and abuses of Abu Ghraib. What he has to say this time is truly chilling even if, after so many lies and so much warmongering by the Bush administration, it has lost its ability to shock anyone. (continued below the fold)

There is a growing conviction among members of the United States military, and in the international community, that President Bush’s ultimate goal in the nuclear confrontation with Iran is regime change. Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has challenged the reality of the Holocaust and said that Israel must be “wiped off the map.” Bush and others in the White House view him as a potential Adolf Hitler, a former senior intelligence official said. “That’s the name they’re using. They say, ‘Will Iran get a strategic weapon and threaten another world war?’ ”

A government consultant with close ties to the civilian leadership in the Pentagon said that Bush was “absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb” if it is not stopped. He said that the President believes that he must do “what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do,” and “that saving Iran is going to be his legacy.”
[...]

Bush has so consistently lied, that the truth is an anomaly in his administration. I agree with Seymour Hersh - if anyone would bomb Iran this man would. He and more than half his administration ARE the epitomy of narcissistic psychopaths.

Living Like Laura

First Lady Explains American Caste System

Did you hear Laura Bush yesterday? I did, but I was so freaked out that it wasn't until this morning that the horror of the remarks she made from the glistening town of Lafayette--where apparently all the refugees had just had steaming hot bubble baths and were currently enjoying tea and scones and croquet on the lawn--began to congeal in my mind.

http://twistyfaster.typepad.com/i_blame_the_patriarchy/2005/09/_first_lady_exp.html

She blew through the bulk of my attention span thanking and re-thanking the local nibs who flanked her in a semicircle, and praising and re-praising the local citizenry for "coming together." I had nearly dozed off by the time she was finally asked to bestow upon the nation her thoughts on the umpteenth circle of hell that is New Orleans, and why the feds have been so lackadaisical in turning up with the picnic baskets. In response, Bush, taking the tone of the magnanimous patrician explaining with infinite patience the facts of feudal life to the unwashed rabble, observed that the situation is, in fact, consistent with the natural order of things. In other words, it's always gonna the poor black people who suffocate in squalid convention centers waiting for the National Guard to mosey along, and it's tough teacakes, but that's just "the way it is;" you can hardly expect the federal government to give poor people the priority.

Meanwhile I have just heard a woman on NPR, apparently some kind of disaster expert, espousing a philosphy of segregation in the refugee shelters. People, she said, naturally want to be with people just "like themselves." Apparently having survived a terrifying natural disaster is not a common enough denominator; preserving class and racial boundaries is always the best comfort.

She also said that shelter organizers (presumably because they have never seen a woman before) should remember that women (presumably because we are patently bizarre) have "different" needs.

The DeLay-Abramoff Money Trail

Nonprofit Group Linked to Lawmaker Was Funded Mostly by Clients of Lobbyist

By R. Jeffrey SmithWashington Post Staff WriterSaturday, December 31, 2005; A01

The U.S. Family Network, a public advocacy group that operated in the 1990s with close ties to Rep. Tom DeLay and claimed to be a nationwide grass-roots organization, was funded almost entirely by corporations linked to embattled lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to tax records and former associates of the group.

During its five-year existence, the U.S. Family Network raised $2.5 million but kept its donor list secret. The list, obtained by The Washington Post, shows that $1 million of its revenue came in a single 1998 check from a now-defunct London law firm whose former partners would not identify the money's origins.

Two former associates of Edwin A. Buckham, the congressman's former chief of staff and the organizer of the U.S. Family Network, said Buckham told them the funds came from Russian oil and gas executives. Abramoff had been working closely with two such Russian energy executives on their Washington agenda, and the lobbyist and Buckham had helped organize a 1997 Moscow visit by DeLay (R-Tex.).

The former president of the U.S. Family Network said Buckham told him that Russians contributed $1 million to the group in 1998 specifically to influence DeLay's vote on legislation the International Monetary Fund needed to finance a bailout of the collapsing Russian economy.

A spokesman for DeLay, who is fighting in a Texas state court unrelated charges of illegal fundraising, denied that the contributions influenced the former House majority leader's political activities. The Russian energy executives who worked with Abramoff denied yesterday knowing anything about the million-dollar London transaction described in tax documents.
Whatever the real motive for the contribution of $1 million -- a sum not prohibited by law but extraordinary for a small, nonprofit group -- the steady stream of corporate payments detailed on the donor list makes it clear that Abramoff's long-standing alliance with DeLay was sealed by a much more extensive web of financial ties than previously known.

Records and interviews also illuminate the mixture of influence and illusion that surrounded the U.S. Family Network. Despite the group's avowed purpose, records show it did little to promote conservative ideas through grass-roots advocacy. The money it raised came from businesses with no demonstrated interest in the conservative "moral fitness" agenda that was the group's professed aim.

In addition to the million-dollar payment involving the London law firm, for example, half a million dollars was donated to the U.S. Family Network by the owners of textile companies in the Mariana Islands in the Pacific, according to the tax records. The textile owners -- with Abramoff's help -- solicited and received DeLay's public commitment to block legislation that would boost their labor costs, according to Abramoff associates, one of the owners and a DeLay speech in 1997. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/30/AR2005123001480_pf.html

But the records show that the tiny U.S. Family Network, which never had more than one full-time staff member, spent comparatively little money on public advocacy or education projects. Although established as a nonprofit organization, it paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees to Buckham and his lobbying firm, Alexander Strategy Group.

Red Flags' on Tax Returns

Nine months before the June 25, 1998, payment of $1 million by the London law firm James & Sarch Co., as recorded in the tax forms, Buckham and DeLay were the dinner guests in Moscow of Marina Nevskaya and Alexander Koulakovsky of the oil firm Naftasib, which in promotional literature counted as its principal clients the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior.
Buckham, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, had worked for DeLay since 1995, after serving in other congressional offices and then as executive director of the Republican Study Committee, a group of fiscally conservative House members.

Their other dining companions were Abramoff and Washington lawyer Julius "Jay" Kaplan, whose lobbying firms collected $440,000 in 1997 and 1998 from an obscure Bahamian firm that helped organize and indirectly pay for the DeLay trip, in conjunction with the Russians. In disclosure forms, the stated purpose of the lobbying was to promote the policies of the Russian government.
Kaplan and British lawyer David Sarch had worked together previously. (Sarch died a month before the $1 million was paid.) Buckham's trip with DeLay was his second to Moscow that year for meetings with Nevskaya and Koulakovsky; on the earlier one, the DeLay aide attracted media attention by returning through Paris aboard the Concorde, a $5,500 flight.
Former Abramoff associates and documents in the hands of federal prosecutors state that Nevskaya and Koulakovsky sought Abramoff's help at the time in securing various favors from the U.S. government, including congressional earmarks or federal grants for their modular-home construction firm near Moscow and the construction of a fossil-fuel plant in Israel. None appears to have been obtained by their firm.
Former DeLay employees say Koulakovsky and Nevskaya met with him on multiple occasions. The Russians also frequently used Abramoff's skyboxes at local sports stadiums -- as did Kaplan, according to sources and a 2001 e-mail Abramoff wrote to another client.
Three sources familiar with Abramoff's activities on their behalf say that the two Russians -- who knew the head of the Russian energy giant Gazprom and had invested heavily in that firm -- partly wanted just to be seen with a prominent American politician as a way of bolstering their credibility with the Russian government and their safety on Moscow's streets.

What a travesty. The largest military in the world and the country is brought to its knees by a criminal corporate plan for world domination, from within. Oil companies are obviously calling the shots. They are holding the world ransom to a shakedown as thorough as all their other mafia modeled plans. Every war, and every faux energy crisis in the past sixty years has been orchestrated American corporations.

The CIA (since Bush Senior) has operated a CIA within the CIA, a CIA responsible only to the criminal corporations who funded Adolph Hitler and who couldn't rush quickly enough to promote unending war. NEVER in the history of the United States of America have two "leaders" (Bush / Cheney) benefitted so much, so directly from the consequences of war.

The world is watching to see if the USA can restore any credibility at all as a responsible democracy that does not torture and has legitimate elections. Right now it looks doubtful, especially given the above the law presidency of George Bush.

Diamonds and Death - the President's Money Laundry

Shortly after being appointed to office by the Supreme Court, Bush set up a money laundry to parallel the Islamic terrorist money laundry.

Faith based funding takes U.S. tax dollars and funnels same to various organizations like the Christian Coalition - who have funded Charles Taylor (on trial for war crimes) and Mugabe. Other funds are spent promoting Christianity around the world.

What do televangelist Pat Robertson and a ruthless dictator have in common? Diamonds, for one thing.

TIME Domestic February 27, 1994 Volume 145, No. 9

Who would expect to find diamonds on the souls of evangelical American missionaries in Zaire? Situated in the bull's-eye of Africa, Zaire has 43 million citizens scratching out a living on roughly $500 a year apiece. Zaire's cruel, old-style dictator, Mobutu Sese Seko, however, does not subsist on $500 a year - he has many millions stashed away, and right now he makes a decent income off his country's roughly $300 million-a-year diamond trade. Now, with Mobutu's permission, Zaire's diamond business has a new entrant - Pat Robertson, the American televangelist and ex-presidential candidate.
Backed by the CIA, army general Joseph-Desire Mobutu took over the Republic of the Congo in 1965 and later called himself Mobutu Sese Seko. In 1971 he renamed the country Zaire. Throughout his rule, Mobutu has dealt brutally with opponents, civilian and military. His country's mineral wealth and location kept Mobutu valuable to Western interests for years, but when the threat of communist expansion disappeared, his worth diminished. By 1993 his horrific human-rights record and his refusal to yield the throne had led to an economic squeeze of Zaire by three major trading partners - the U.S., France and Belgium. Largesse from lenient banks dried up.

Desperately casting a net for new friends, Mobutu found Robertson. Makau Mutua, projects director of the Human Rights Program at the Harvard Law School, says that currently "Robertson is Mobutu's biggest American catch." The association of dictator and preacher began with a Robertson relief group, Operation Blessing, a branch of which has botched a corn-cultivation project on a 50,000-acre farm outside the capital, Kinshasa. Last year during the Rwandan refugee crisis, Operation Blessing expanded its humanitarian efforts to Goma but was criticized for spending too much money on transportation, pulling its workers out too soon and proselytizing. "They were laying on hands," an American aid worker recalls, "speaking in tongues and holding services while people were dying all around." Many relief agencies are notorious for mismanagement and backbiting, but even considering that, Operation Blessing drew a considerable volume of negative reviews from fellow Samaritans.

Another Robertson organization working in Zaire is the African Development Co. Around the world, Robertson has substantial business interests (in the U.S. he controls TV's Family Channel, the Ice Capades and KaloVita, a venture selling vitamins and skin creams from the Holy Land), and ADC is a private enterprise formed to look into investments in mining, lumber, agriculture, transportation and power generation, with an eye to plowing the profits back into humanitarian efforts. A nascent diamond-mining operation in Zaire is a project of the ADC. Located on a river southeast of the boomtown of Tshikapa in the heart of Zaire's diamond country, the project uses state-of-the-art dredges and diving equipment. Robertson is also exploring gold interests on the upper Zaire, or Congo, River, and assessing the hardwood logging potential of four great swaths of rain forest. CONTINUED...

New Orleans - Mugabe / Bush ?

What's the difference.

We pay for both, over and over again.

Know your facts: Rev. Sun Myung Moon OWNS Poppy Bush.

Porkers EXCERPT…Well, if the Heritage foundation says it, we better jump up and down like the trained dogs we are. Did you know The Heritage Foundation has taken funding from The Korean CIA. They welcome Moon's influence. Just like the ENTIRE conservative movement, which has been taken over by religious freaks and fascists. The party formerly known as "Republican" exists NO MORE.

Moon has one belief, that he is the Messiah. He has one goal, to wrench control of the world. Put "Bush + Moonies' in your google and read about how the conservatives sold their souls for power to Moon. What a bunch of anti-Jesus frauds. In 1989 US News reported that virtually EVERY conservative group in DC had ties to Moon's organization. Moon literally brags about using The Washington Times to get the chumps to follow him to theo fascist hell, which is where Bush is taking us. Bush IS doing "True Father's" bidding, wittingly or not. No Moon NO Bush. Kinda spooky when you consider Moon said presidents would have to come to him for power. This is true in the republican party, today.

See Jerry Falwell hugging the conservative "savior" Moon here. The conservative leadership sold their souls to Moon and their pod followers have no idea.Look at this. Can you say HYPOCRITE. That is what conservatives are.HYPOCRITE Sun Myung Moon and the Unification ChurchDark Side of Rev. MoonGee. WHY HAVEN'T THE BUSH ADMINSTRATION UTOPIAN LUNATICS SCREECHING ABOUT "ISLAMIC TERRORISTS" OPERATING ON THE BRAZILIAN SIDE OF THE TRI-BORDER AREA, SAID DIDDLY ABOUT MOON'S OPERATIONS? RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 23 (EIRNS) —

Rev. Moon's cult has been the subject of a multi-agency, federal and state, national security investigation in Brazil, since at least July 2001. The investigations were undertaken at the initiative of the Army, because the Moon cult was accumulating enormous, contiguous tracts of land on both sides of the Paraguayan and Brazilian border--in an area very near the Triple Border region (where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet), notorious for drug, arms and other contraband. It was estimated back in 2001, that the Moonies had made a $2 billion dollar investment in building their supposed "Garden of Eden" in the Brazil-Paraguay area. The Brazilian magazine {Isto E} described it in this way in its Feb. 19, 2002 story, "Paradise Under Suspicion": "A kind of independent territory is being created in silence, in an area between the border of Brazil and Paraguay. It is the tropical paradise of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, formed through a succession of nature preserves, where the rivers Nabilequie, Miranda, Paraguai, Prata, and Salobra cross. In total, the properties add up to 833,000 hectares, which is the equivalent of more than three Luxembourgs, the European Grand-Duchy. In it, would fit the whole Federal District, plus the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. If the lands were used for agrarian reform, they would be enough to provide for 41,650 families. Although they are not yet continguous, the lands being acquired are so close to one another that it is impossible to imagine that this is not being done to unify them." CONTINUED...

Doug Wead, a Bush family advisor and counselor to Dubya, has a history of crass opportunism and the release of the Bush tapes was only the most recent example. Most of Doug Wead's political career has been spent out of the public eye. Except for a failed run for an Arizona congressional seat in the early nineties, he's generally worked behind the scenes, first serving President George H.W. Bush and later, advising George W. He's generally avoided the headlines in the mainstream press. Last month, however, Wead came charging into the hot glare of the media spotlight. Neo or Theo, They Are Still Cons With Shared Roots

Canada is not fond of George Bush, as a people we voted in a national poll 85% to 15% that he NOT be voted into office. BUT, Stephen Harper is fond of George W. Bush and they share the fascist philosophy of Leo Strauss, the police state socrates at whose feet sat Wolfowitz (or Dr. Strangelove).

The Tyee has an article outlining why this should concern us:

Harper, Bush Share Roots in Controversial Philosophy
Linked by Leo Strauss

Close advisors schooled in 'the noble lie' and 'regime change'.

By Donald Gutstein Published: November 29, 2005

TheTyee.ca

What do close advisors to Stephen Harper and George W. Bush have in common? They reflect the disturbing teachings of Leo Strauss, the German-Jewish émigré who spawned the neoconservative movement.

Strauss, who died in 1973, believed in the inherent inequality of humanity. Most people, he famously taught, are too stupid to make informed decisions about their political affairs. Elite philosophers must decide on affairs of state for us.

In Washington, Straussians exert powerful influence from within the inner circle of the White House. In Canada, they roost, for now, in the so-called Calgary School, guiding Harper in framing his election strategies. What preoccupies Straussians in both places is the question of "regime change."

Strauss defined a regime as a set of governing ideas, institutions and traditions. The neoconservatives in the Bush administration, who secretly conspired to make the invasion of Iraq a certainty, had a precise plan for regime change. They weren't out to merely replace Saddam with an American puppet. They planned to make the system more like the U.S., with an electoral process that can be manipulated by the elites, corporate control over the levers of power and socially conservative "values".

The 'noble lie'

Strauss believed that allowing citizens to govern themselves will lead, inevitably, to terror and tyranny, as the Weimar Republic succumbed to the Nazis in the 1930s. A ruling elite of political philosophers must make those decisions because it is the only group smart enough. It must resort to deception -- Strauss's "noble lie" -- to protect citizens from themselves. The elite must hide the truth from the public by writing in code. "Using metaphors and cryptic language," philosophers communicated one message for the elite, and another message for "the unsophisticated general population," philosopher Jeet Heer recently wrote in the Globe and Mail. "For Strauss, the art of concealment and secrecy was among the greatest legacies of antiquity."

The recent outing of star New York Times reporter Judith Miller reveals how today's neocons use the media to conceal the truth from the public. For Straussians, telling Americans that Saddam didn't have WMD's and had nothing to do with Al-Qaeda, but that we needed to take him out for geopolitical and ideological reasons you can't comprehend, was a non-starter. The people wouldn't get it. Time for a whopper.
Miller was responsible for pushing into the Times the key neocon lie that Saddam was busy stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. This deception helped build support among Americans for the invasion of Iraq. Miller was no independent journalist seeking the truth nor a victim of neocon duplicity, as she claimed. She worked closely with Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who was U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff and responsible for coordinating Iraq intelligence and communication strategy. Libby is a Straussian who studied under Paul Wolfowitz, now head of the World Bank, and before that, deputy secretary of defense, where he led the 'Invade Iraq" lobby. Wolfowitz studied under Strauss and Allan Bloom, Strauss's most famous student.
Miller cultivated close links to the neocons in the administration and at the American Enterprise Institute, the leading Washington-based neocon think tank. AEI played the key role outside government in fabricating intelligence to make the case for invading Iraq. Straussian Richard Perle, who chaired the Defence Policy Board Advisory Committee until he was kicked off because of a conflict of interest, is a senior fellow at AEI and coordinated its efforts. Miller co-wrote a book on the Middle East with an AEI scholar. Rather than being a victim of government manipulation, Miller was a conduit between the neocons and the American public. As a result of her reporting, many Americans came to believe that Saddam had the weapons. War and regime change followed.

'Regime change' in Canada

As in the U.S., regime change became a Canadian media darling. Before 9-11, the phrase appeared in Canadian newspapers less than ten times a year. It usually referred to changes in leadership of a political party or as part of the phrase "regulatory regime change." Less than a week after 9-11, the phrase began to be used in its Straussian sense, as if a scenario was being choreographed.

From 19 mentions in Canadian newspapers in 2001, regime change soared to 790 mentions in 2002 and 1334 mentions in 2003. With the Iraq invasion accomplished that year, usage tailed off in 2004 (291 mentions) and in 2005 (208 mentions to November 10).

There's one big difference between American and Canadian Straussians. The Americans assumed positions of power and influence in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. The Canadians have not had much opportunity to show (or is that hide?) their stuff. That may change with a Harper victory.

Paul Wolfowitz's teacher, Allan Bloom, and another Straussian, Walter Berns, taught at the University of Toronto during the 1970s. They left their teaching posts at Cornell University because they couldn't stomach the student radicalism of the '60s. At Toronto, they influenced an entire generation of political scientists, who fanned out to universities across the country.
Two of their students, Ted Morton and Rainer Knopff, went to the University of Calgary where they specialize in attacking the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. They claim the charter is the result of a conspiracy foisted on the Canadian people by "special interests." These nasty people are feminists, gays and lesbians, the poor, prisoners and refugee-rights groups who are advancing their own interests through the courts at the expense of the general public, these Straussians allege.

The problem with their analysis is that the special interest which makes more use of the courts to advance its interests than all these other groups combined -- business -- receives not a mention. Deception by omission is a common Straussian technique. The weak are targeted while the real culprits disappear.

Harper's mentors

Harper studied under the neocons at the University of Calgary and worked with them to craft policies for the fledgling Reform Party in the late 1980s. Together with Preston Manning, they created an oxymoron, a populist party backed by business.

Ted Morton has turned his attention to provincial politics. He's an elected MLA and a candidate to succeed Premier Ralph Klein. But he did influence the direction of right-wing politics at the federal level as the Canadian Alliance director of research under Stockwell Day.

When Harper threw his hat in the ring for the leadership of the Alliance, Tom Flanagan, the Calgary School's informal leader, became his closest adviser. Harper and Flanagan, whose scholarship focuses on attacking aboriginal rights, entered a four-year writing partnership and together studied the works of government-hater Friedrich Hayek. Flanagan ran the 2004 Conservative election campaign and is pulling the strings as the country readies for the election.
Political philosopher Shadia Drury is an expert on Strauss, though not a follower. She was a member of Calgary's political science department for more than two decades, frequently locking horns with her conservative colleagues before leaving in 2003 for the University of Regina.
Strauss recommended harnessing the simplistic platitudes of populism to galvanize mass support for measures that would, in fact, restrict rights. Does the Calgary School resort to such deceitful tactics? Drury believes so. Such thinking represents "a huge contempt for democracy," she told the Globe and Mail's John Ibbotson. The 2004 federal election campaign run by Flanagan was "the greatest stealth campaign we have ever seen," she said, "run by radical populists hiding behind the cloak of rhetorical moderation."
Straus and 'Western alienation'

...
The Calgary School has successfully hidden its program beneath the complaint of western alienation. "If we've done anything, we've provided legitimacy for what was the Western view of the country," Calgary Schooler Barry Cooper told journalist Marci McDonald in her important Walrus article. "We've given intelligibility and coherence to a way of looking at it that's outside the St. Lawrence Valley mentality." This is sheer Straussian deception. On the surface, it's easy to understand Cooper's complaint and the Calgary School's mission. But the message says something very different to those in the know. For 'St. Lawrence Valley mentality,' they read 'the Ottawa-based modern liberal state,' with all the negative baggage it carries for Straussians. And for 'Western view,' they read 'the right-wing attack on democracy.' We've provided legitimacy for the radical-right attack on the Canadian democratic state, Cooper is really saying.
A network is already in place to assist Harper in foisting his radical agenda on the Canadian people.

In 2003, he delivered an important address to a group called Civitas. This secretive organization, which has no web site and leaves little paper or electronic trail, is a network of Canadian neoconservative and libertarian academics, politicians, journalists and think tank propagandists.

Harper's adviser Tom Flanagan is an active member. Conservative MP Jason Kenney is a member, as are Brian Lee Crowley, head of the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies and Michel Kelly-Gagnon of the Montreal Economic Institute, the second and third most important right-wing think tanks after the Fraser Institute.

Civitas is top-heavy with journalists to promote the cause. Lorne Gunter of the National Post is president. Members include Janet Jackson (Calgary Sun) and Danielle Smith (Calgary Herald). Journalists Colby Cosh, William Watson and Andrew Coyne (all National Post) have made presentations to Civitas.

The Globe and Mail's Marcus Gee is not mentioned in relation to Civitas but might as well be a member, if his recent column titled "George Bush is not a liar," is any evidence. In it, Gee repeats the lies the Bush neocons are furiously disseminating to persuade the people that Bush is not a liar.

Neo-con to Theo-con

The speech Harper gave to Civitas was the source of the charge made by the Liberals during the 2004 election -- sure to be revived in the next election -- that Harper has a scary, secret agenda. Harper urged a return to social conservatism and social values, to change gears from neocon to theocon, in The Report's Ted Byfield's apt but worrisome phrase, echoing visions of a future not unlike that painted in Margaret Atwood's dystopian work, A Handmaid's Tale.
The state should take a more activist role in policing social norms and values, Harper told the assembled conservatives. To achieve this goal, social and economic conservatives must reunite as they have in the U.S., where evangelical Christians and business rule in an unholy alliance. Red Tories must be jettisoned from the party, he said, and alliances forged with ethnic and immigrant communities who currently vote Liberal but espouse traditional family values. This was the successful strategy counselled by the neocons under Ronald Reagan to pull conservative Democrats into the Republican tent.

Movement towards the goal must be "incremental," he said, so the public won't be spooked. Regime change, one step at a time.

Religious Right infected schoolboards have censored books and rewritten the curriculum to include "creationism" and remove ""evolution". For some bizarre reason they do not believe in overpopulation, pollution, environmentalism, the Holocaust, extinction of species or global warming, but support a strong military and even assasination of foreign leaders. Some believe in perpetual motion (lately called cold fusion) or that opera opposes religion. Some of the more conservative Religious Right have it in for Roman Catholics, Jews, and the Talmud, Freemasons, Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. They have gone so far as to attempt to pass legislation requring the American people to "humble themselves before God". Many also believe that the Rapture (end of the world, Armageddon) is near and want to prepare the way. Many are terrified of the concept of "One/New World Order". When questioned about their own sins, they claim "the Devil made me do it".

Barbara Boxes Bush With Facts

What is that I hear - more Bush kaka?

While many in the Senate and House sit in the pimpingly predictable lazy, haze of lobbyist funded excess, Barbara Boxer is one of few who feels the true calling of office.

She has risen to the occasion, despite the enslaught of right wing slime foisted on both McKinney and her, to stand in the truth and demand answers (on camera).

http://www.barbaraboxer.com/ the URL of her web site, where a summary of her work may be found.

She also writes a column for the Daily Kos: Thursday January 27, 2005

Barbara Boxer at Daily Kos

Senator Barbara Boxer has a diary at Daily Kos and writes about her appreciation to the blogoshphere for supporting her position on Condi Rice. Here's a bit:

I can't thank all of you enough -- the Daily Kos community, and the blogosphere as a whole -- for all of your effective work during the recent debate over Condoleezza Rice's nomination. Your support and participation in this critical debate meant so much to me.

.... You helped to get our message out to millions of Americans -- I couldn't have done it without you. And you made a difference. You gave me the voice I needed to ask the tough questions during Dr. Rice's confirmation hearings. And you gave the entire United States Senate the voice it needed to take its "advice and consent" responsibility seriously. In fact, Condoleezza Rice received 13 votes against her confirmation -- the most votes against any Secretary of State's nomination since 1825.

Boxer, like McKinney, frequently stands alone, unsupported and truthful, in a corrupt congress where the decisions are based on how much a corporation kicked in to get their laws passed.

The public sees the most corrupt administration in the history of the United States of America and the complete and utter inability of the Congress to enforce the law and hold them accountable - because they too are corrupt.

Thank YOU Ms. Boxer for having the courage to think for yourself and not behave like the pack animal so many have become.

Why won't President Bush answer questions about Jack Abramoff?

Join 25,559 Americans and email your Senators!
The American people deserve to know the truth about the extent of Jack Abramoff's relationship with the Bush Administration, and how that may have corrupted policy decisions.

That's why I have co-sponsored a "sense of the Senate" amendment, along with my colleagues John Kerry and Frank Lautenberg, urging the White House to provide the American people with a thorough account of the meetings the President, his staff, and senior executive branch officials had with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

After all, it's not George Bush's White House -- it's the people's White House -- and it is long past time they got an unobstructed look into their own government. If the President has nothing to hide, there shouldn't be a problem.

It's time for the White House to come clean about Jack Abramoff. Urge you Senators to support my amendment today!

Rock on Barbara, may the force be with you.
