Former Reagan Official - Hold Bush Accountable!

Conservative and former staffer of the Reagan cabinet Paul Craig Roberts separates the wheat from the chaf, the kaka from the barnyard. In this case with the Bush crime syndicate it is difficult to separate Dubya from the doo-doo, and this morning's press conference was a typical smirking, Mugabe Bush performance.

I could not respond to this ridiculous act better than Paul Craig Roberts already has...so I share it with you now:

Protecting America – From the President
by Paul Craig Roberts

President George W. Bush and his director of National Intelligence, Mike McConnell, are telling the American people that an unaccountable executive branch is necessary for their protection. Without the Protect America Act, Bush and McConnell claim, the executive branch will not be able to spy on terrorists, and we will all be blown up. Terrorists can only be stopped, Bush says, if Bush has the right to spy on everyone without any oversight by courts.
The fight over the Protect America Act has everything to do with our safety, only not in the way that Bush and McConnell assert.
Bush says the Democrats have put "our country more in danger of an attack" by letting the Protect America Act lapse. This claim is nonsense. The 30-year-old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act gives the executive branch all the power it needs to spy on terrorists.

The choice between FISA and the Protect America Act has nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism, at least not from foreign terrorists. Bush and his brownshirts object to FISA, because the law requires Bush to obtain warrants from a FISA court. Warrants mean that Bush is accountable. Bush and his brownshirts argue that accountability is an infringement on the power of the president.

To escape accountability, the Brownshirt Party came up with the Protect America Act. This act eliminates Bush's accountability to judges and gives the telecom companies immunity from the felonies they committed by acquiescing in Bush's illegal spying.
Bush began violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in October 2001 when he spied on Americans without obtaining warrants from the FISA court.
Bush pressured telecom companies to break the law in order to enable his illegal spying. In court documents, Joseph P. Nacchio, former CEO of Qwest Communications International, states that his firm was approached more than six months before the September 11, 2001, attacks and asked to participate in a spying operation that Qwest believed to be illegal. When Qwest refused, the Bush administration withdrew opportunities for contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Nacchio himself was subsequently indicted for insider trading, sending the message to all telecom companies to cooperate with the Bush regime or else.

Bush has not been held accountable for the felonies he committed and for leading telecom companies into a life of crime.
As the lawmakers who gave us FISA understood, spying on people without warrants lets a political party collect dirt on its adversaries with which to blackmail them. As Bush illegally spied a long time before word of it got out, blackmail might be the reason the Democrats have ignored their congressional election mandate and have not put a stop to Bush's illegal wars and unconstitutional police state measures.
Perhaps the Democrats have finally caught on that they cannot function as a political party as long as they continue to permit Bush to spy on them. For one reason or another, they have let the Orwellian-named Protect America Act expire.

With the Protect America Act, Bush and his brownshirts are trying to establish the independence of the executive branch from statutory law and the Constitution. The FISA law means that the president is accountable to federal judges for warrants. Bush and the brownshirt Republicans are striving to make the president independent of all accountability. The brownshirts insist that the leader knows best and can tolerate no interference from the law, the judiciary, the Congress, or the Constitution, and certainly not from the American people who, the brownshirts tell us, won't be safe unless Bush is very powerful.
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison saw it differently. The American people cannot be safe unless the president is accountable and under many restraints.

Pray that the Democrats have caught on that they cannot give the executive branch unaccountable powers to spy and still have grounds on which to refuse the executive branch unaccountable powers elsewhere.
Republicans have used the "war on terror" to create an unaccountable executive. To prevent the presidency from becoming a dictatorial office, it is crucial that Congress cease acquiescing in Bush's grab for powers. As the Founding Fathers warned us, the terrorists we have to fear are the ones in power in Washington.
The al-Qaeda terrorists, with whom Bush has been frightening us, have no power to destroy our liberties. Compared to the loss of liberty, a terrorist attack is nothing.
...
American mainstream media have NOT interviewed Paul Craig Roberts on any of the "fair and balanced" networks. Of course it is difficult to separate the Judith Millers (CIA plants to start the war in Iraq) from the real deal these days.

These are just some images that flitted through my head as I watched the most patronizing,
performance of the president in office, delivered by one of the biggest buffoons in history, who if not for a compromised supreme court and
Diebold machines would not be qualified for janitor (no disrespect to janitors intended).

It is patently infuriating to watch otherwise intelligent people let themselves be bullied by
a monied thug.

AND the Bush clan has been at it for a l-ong time, with their entire sordid past (and present) well documented in the National Archives and
the blood of Auschwitz on their palatial estate at Kennebunkport. Oh I forgot we don't talk about that do we...

Until we DO talk about American nazism ..its past, present and possible future ..we will be ruled by it.

Let's get it out in the open, arrest the corporate coup in office, reverse this thug's appointments as judges, and
restore the democratic state. Got it? Good...now let's go
Americans and Canadians and take our countries back from these cash and carry conservatives who put the almighty buck above the Almighty and their own country.

Otherwise "God" in America is an acronym for Greed Over Decency.

America needs to step down from judging the world and look in the mirror. There is much that needs a face lift, in fact major surgery is required
NOW.

Molly Ivins - Not Hillary, Not Bush Lite

Before Molly Ivins lost her battle to cancer she left fellow Texans with something that is worth revisiting today.

Published on Friday, January 20, 2006 by the Columbus Free Press (Ohio)
I Will Not Support Hillary Clinton for President
by Molly Ivins

I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president. Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges. The recent death of Gene McCarthy reminded me of a lesson I spent a long, long time unlearning, so now I have to re-learn it. It's about political courage and heroes, and when a country is desperate for leadership. There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief.

If no one in conventional-wisdom politics has the courage to speak up and say what needs to be said, then you go out and find some obscure junior senator from Minnesota with the guts to do it. In 1968, Gene McCarthy was the little boy who said out loud, "Look, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes." Bobby Kennedy -- rough, tough Bobby Kennedy -- didn't do it. Just this quiet man trained by Benedictines who liked to quote poetry. What kind of courage does it take, for mercy's sake? The majority of the American people (55 percent) think the war in Iraq is a mistake and that we should get out. The majority (65 percent) of the American people want single-payer health care and are willing to pay more taxes to get it. The majority (86 percent) of the American people favor raising the minimum wage. The majority of the American people (60 percent) favor repealing Bush's tax cuts, or at least those that go only to the rich. The majority (66 percent) wants to reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending, but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes. The majority (77 percent) thinks we should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment. The majority (87 percent) thinks big oil companies are gouging consumers and would support a windfall profits tax. That is the center, you fools. WHO ARE YOU AFRAID OF? I listen to people like Rahm Emanuel superciliously explaining elementary politics to us clueless naifs outside the Beltway ("First, you have to win elections"). Can't you even read the damn polls?

Here's a prize example by someone named Barry Casselman, who writes, "There is an invisible civil war in the Democratic Party, and it is between those who are attempting to satisfy the defeatist and pacifist left base of the party and those who are attempting to prepare the party for successful elections in 2006 and 2008." This supposedly pits Howard Dean, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, emboldened by "a string of bad news from the Middle East ... into calling for premature retreat from Iraq," versus those pragmatic folk like Steny Hoyer, Rahm Emmanuel, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman.
Oh come on, people -- get a grip on the concept of leadership. Look at this war -- from the lies that led us into it, to the lies they continue to dump on us daily. You sit there in Washington so frightened of the big, bad Republican machine you have no idea what people are thinking. I'm telling you right now, Tom DeLay is going to lose in his district. If Democrats in Washington haven't got enough sense to OWN the issue of political reform, I give up on them entirely.

Do it all, go long, go for public campaign financing for Congress. I'm serious as a stroke about this -- that is the only reform that will work, and you know it, as well as everyone else who's ever studied this. Do all the goo-goo stuff everybody has made fun of all these years: embrace redistricting reform, electoral reform, House rules changes, the whole package. Put up, or shut up. Own this issue, or let Jack Abramoff politics continue to run your town. Bush, Cheney and Co. will continue to play the patriotic bully card just as long as you let them. I've said it before: War brings out the patriotic bullies. In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were "German dogs." They did not, however, go around kicking German shepherds. The MINUTE someone impugns your patriotism for opposing this war, turn on them like a snarling dog and explain what loving your country really means. That, or you could just piss on them elegantly, as Rep. John Murtha did. Or eviscerate them with wit (look up Mark Twain on the war in the Philippines). Or point out the latest in the endless "string of bad news." Do not sit there cowering and pretending the only way to win is as Republican-lite. If the Washington-based party can't get up and fight, we'll find someone who can.

Truth is stranger than fiction in America, where reality is a parallel universe to the propagandized tyranny imposed on the public.

i.e.
Business Plot
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

The Business Plot, the Plot Against FDR, or the White House Putsch, was a political conspiracy involving several wealthy businessmen to overthrow the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933.
Details of the matter came to light when retired Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler testified before a Congressional committee that a group of men had attempted to recruit him to serve as the leader of a plot and to assume and wield power once the coup was successful. Butler testified before the McCormack-Dickstein Committee in 1934.[1] In his testimony, Butler claimed that a group of several men had approached him as part of a plot to overthrow Roosevelt in a military coup. One of the alleged plotters, Gerald MacGuire, vehemently denied any such plot. In their final report, the Congressional committee supported Butler's allegations on the existence of the plot,[2] but no prosecutions or further investigations followed, and the matter was mostly forgotten.
Major General Butler claimed that the American Liberty League was the primary means of funding the plot. The main backers were the Du Pont family, as well as leaders of U.S. Steel, General Motors, Standard Oil, Chase National Bank, and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. A BBC documentary about the plot alleges that Prescott Bush, father and grandfather to the 41st and 43rd US Presidents respectively, was also connected.[3]

Under the Clinton presidency NAFTA was negotiated and we have all seen the result of that trade agreement. To imply that Canadians and Mexicans were the ones who did not want labor laws in NAFTA is ridiculous. Canada has lost manufacturing jobs overseas as has Mexico, the labor of all three countries treated commodities, no humanity involved here.
The "war on drugs" (anyone selling drugs in competition to the CIA drug cartel) and the "war on poverty (actually a war on the poor)" became inseparable and more than a million black men are now incarcerated for terms of over ten years for an ounce of pot. In turn their labor is contracted back (cheap) to firms like AT&T. While American coffers are bilked dry, companies are paid to move offshore where they pay no taxes at all to support the troops fighting for their private oil profits. It is quite a slave trade they have going and the foundation was laid during the Clinton years.
Certainly Clinton was immeasurably better than Bush, but he let a far too much go that is
fundamentally harmful to America, had the decision been made the other way in the first place.

I mean, even I get it that if you allow corporations to hire someone for a dollar a day in another country, they are going to take their business out of the country and go elsewhere - now. So why couldn't the Clintons and congress see that? Further why didn't Clinton go the public and tell them that congress was passing laws that actually funded corporations to move offshore?

So "friends" and "folks" ....how about a president on DAY ONE who has no record of dealing with the corporate coup destroying America while otherwise intelligent people sit silent.
How about someone NOT in bed with the lobbyists, and the oil companies, and even better if it is someone who can enforce the law and not have it only apply to anyone not a Republican or a Bush.

Molly has passed on now, but her courage is still here with us in everything she wrote.
She loved us immeasurably and gawd she knew how to love. She kicked the bullies in the shins,
called Bush "Shrub" and saw through the patronizing, propaganda of the puerile paid off corporate coup press core.

I certainly hope and pray that Obama can get past Diebold (electronic voting) owned Ohio, Texas and Penn. primaries, and since over 400,000 voted early in Texas (to get into manual vote counting) Obama may have a chance.

In the meantime let's keep pouring the light onto Diebold and the fact they gave the New Hampshire to Hillary (see Black Box Voting stats). Ohio and Texas, under the Shrub have proven to be two of the most corrupt states in the union. ENOUGH....I do not want to hear the name Bush OR Clinton in the presidency for the next 100 years...and then their PAST should be reported to the world not buried as corrupt corporate news has done.

The People Verses Monopolized Propaganda

I do not think there are many of us left who do not realize we have been duped by a corporate owned news monopoly who work against the average person, feeding an endless diet to the public on the benefits of corporatism. If we think about it every holiday we celebrate is a corporate invention to help us spend money or feel guilty about missing a gift giving session totally created by corporations to get us all to buy more.

i.e.
With the purchase of Dow Jones & Company, Murdoch adds not just the Wall Street Journal to his holdings, but also Barron’s, the Far Eastern Economic Review, the Asian Wall Street Journal, Market Watch, Dow Jones Indexes, the Ottaway group of community newspaper, and the online database Factiva.

Prior to this week, Murdoch’s News Corporation already owned over 175 newspapers around the world, including the New York Post. His other prized holdings include the Fox TV Network, Fox News, MySpace, the Weekly Standard, HarperCollins, The Times of London, the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, The Sun newspaper, the News of the World, Caribbean Life, part of the National Geographic Channel, FX, the film company 20th Century Fox, and part of TV Guide.

Besides amassing a media empire, Murdoch has repeatedly been accused of using his media holdings to advance his political agenda. In 2003, all of Murdoch’s 175 newspapers supported the Iraq invasion. Just last month, it was revealed former British Prime Minister Tony Blair personally called Murdoch three times in the week leading up to the US and British invasion of Iraq. In his diaries, Blair’s then-communications director, Alistair Campbell, said Blair was afraid the media would find out about Murdoch’s influence. Campbell wrote, “It was faintly obscene that we even had to worry what [Murdoch] thought.” A deputy to Campbell called Murdoch “the 24th member of the [Blair] Cabinet.”

We the people broke up the telcos when they became too monopolized, too predatory and it is high time we broke up the news agencies, news papers and the fascist global monopoly who have taken over our newspapers and television channels. How is that in Canada we have our census contracted to LOCKHEED MARTIN (also involved in torture in Iraq) without a huge outcry in the media, while our Canada Pension plan is vested in industrial military stock. All the while our news agencies sit mute.

When we take our respective countries back this year,
let us move immediately to break up the global gulag of propaganda from this manipulative, treasonous, lying,
monster called Murdoch.

Putting the "I" Back in Independence Day

As we watch a criminal presidency and congress painfully attempt to act like they have a single shred of decency left it is refreshing to see the distribution of contributions to Barack Obama's campaign. Obama, unlike Bush, has NOT flown around in an ENRON corporate jet to his campaign appointments.

Obama's One Million Donors
By Brent Budowsky February 26, 2008

Editor’s Note: Behind the scenes, Hillary Clinton's campaign has been disparaging Barack Obama's enthusiastic supporters as "cult-like" and naive, but that derision may be the sounds of a Democratic Establishment frightened by what this democratic surge really means.

(SL - "behind the scenes"...me thinks not - ol Hillary is busy insulting anyone in public, who wants to vote for Obama..not getting it that insulting people is not a great way to get them to change their minds.) Sales 101 - NEVER criticize a client's former decision - you are insulating that person)
As Obama closes in on one million mostly small donors, he is striking at the heart of the old order -- its dominance over political money, the ability to cut off this life blood to wayward politicians and to turn it on for compliant ones. In this guest essay, former Democratic congressional staffer Brent Budowsky discusses the revolutionary potential of the Obama campaign:

Barack Obama will soon announce that his campaign has 1 million unique donors. That night Chris Matthews will make his power number 1,000,000, which will demonstrate the power of average Americans to demand and enforce real change.
If the Democratic nomination is decided on March 4, the period from March through August will be the most democratically empowering in modern political history.
It could become a “democracy summer,” similar to the Freedom Summer and the birth of the Voting Rights Act.
The Obama gang of one million in March will grow to two million by August. It will put to bed the cynicism of those who speak of unity, idealism and participation with sarcasm, derision and negativity. It will bring honor to those who give their time, energy and money to create the true power for lasting change.

One million donors: This gives Democrats the resources to initiate the largest voter-registration project in history.
The year that began with historic turnout in state after state will end with a historic transformation of the electorate itself that will lift Democrats at all levels and inspire independents in all states.
This huge and surging donor base will put a stake in the heart of Swift Boat-style attacks. The first smear attack will be answered by the roar of millions of small donors, producing tens of millions of dollars, to bury the lie in an avalanche of truth.
This democracy summer between March and August could raise more than a hundred million dollars of new money, register a million new voters and finance an unprecedented advertising campaign on the Internet and liberal radio to promote a second wave of new donors, voters and volunteers to get out the vote.
2008 is similar to the Solidarity movement that transformed Poland, which was in part about Lech Walesa but equally about the Solidarity workers and their supporters.
Barack Obama is no saint and his supporters are not members of a cult.
2008 is about a large and growing mass of deeply patriotic Americans who are disgusted by the corruptions of recent years, and determined to realize great aspirations for the country they love, whose leaders have strayed from the values they cherish.

Let us start by cutting Grover Norquist down to size and
enforcing the LAW against this ONE PARTY corporate cult, destroying their own country daily, while the law looks on, aiding and abetting, goose stepping ..following orders, blindly like good little Nazis.

Let's bring this low class, monied scum to justice.
The Bush Cheney cult have proven ONE thing.

Money will NEVER buy class, decency or integrity, something of which they are all DEVOID.

So this Independence Day let's bring IMPEACHMENT front and center
and FLUSH sixty years of BUSH barbarian tyranny down the toilet along with their entire
paid off propaganda cult called "news" who betray their country daily, by not covering Iraq, not covering the constant corruption and crime committed by the cretins in office.

Americans are viewed as the number one TERROR nation worldwide. It is time to look in the mirror and ACT to excise the darkness and corruption in the national personality.

The Thing - A William Kristol Production

As we watch the Iraqi death toll now exceed a million, and the bombings in Baghdad increase and move into the green zone...
as we watch a criminal administration and congress refuse to behave in accordance with the law or enforce to bring this
pack of thugs and dead enders to justice...it is like waking in the middle of a batman cartoon. The corporate owned cretin(s)
i.e. Cheney, are off in a cave pulling the levers of terror all around the world, while a Bush bribed, or threatened congress rubber stamps treason. All quite amazing in the breadth and depth of criminality and the limp response from congress or any
"legitimate" law enforcement group.

The media is doing what they have always done only more so,
goose-stepping to the cash n' carry conservatives who are more crminal than conservative and have ownership in military industrial stocks. So guess whose "side" they are on?
No wonder faith-based funding is just Gawd's little money laundry from the Abramoff gang. with the likes of Ralphie Reed, running the scam with the casinos and the churches. Heck these guys can work both sides of the street and walk from justice on any given Sunday.

Why won't congress (Republicans AND Democrats) IMPEACH Bush and Cheney, they are both in contempt of every law domestically, and war criminals internationally.
They are disgusting and if the USA is unable to make them comply with the laws of the USA then they need to hand them over to the World Court.
THE WORLD DEMANDS JUSTICE from the evil perpetuated by these monsters.

Barack Obama speaks in the lyrical language of the Irish Kennedy clan and we must allow him to see full promise as a human being on this planet. Too often we have stood silent when our prophets like Martin, Bobby and John were ripped from our dreams, crucifying hope as they so often do.

Let us put those devoid of conscience in our nations on notice.
Touch one hair on the head of ANY candidate and we are coming for you and bringing you to justice. Assassinations, plane crashes, and the usual response will NOT be tolerated.
WE WILL BE FREE.

So watch for the "the thing" in your neigborhood, devoid of conscience, a constant source of manipulation and lies,
their need to divide is imperative - you will know them by their anger, scapegoating, and psychopathic nature.

Over a MILLION dead in Iraq and not a murmur about GENOCIDE? Where is the conscience, the concern, the humanity...the empathy - is all America devoid of conscience?

Let's take back our air waves from these narcissistic navel gazing, brainwashed idiots who mindlessly repeat a corporate patter and spin designed to brainwash, while distracting with the endless campaign to be president, with no news coming from Iraq.

Let us get a news media AND a president that are accountable and operate within the laws of the country. The time is now, and we are just the "folks" to get it done.

USA - Unaccountable Slime of America Run the Show

It is very sad when an absolute mountain of fact sits available for any journalist, yet America is held hostage by a press that publishes word of Kosova moving to "democracy"...leaving out that the party that took charge of the country is the same fascist element that murdered over 100,000 Serbs, when the Albanians, like the Bush family got in bed with Adolf Hitler?

Some facts from the mountain of evidence about AMERICAN genocide.

When the USA is not actively removing governments it disapproves of, it is normally very busy interfering in other nations' affairs. The interference may be financial, military, overt (out in the open) or covert (under-cover, secret).
Whenever the event, there are two reasons to be considered.

Reason 1: The reason given by the USA, its media and its friends around the world. Reasons like Communism, Terrorism, Human Rights, Freedom, Liberation, Weapons of Mass Destruction, etc.

Reason 2: The actual reason. This is usually hidden from the general public and has to be looked for in quotes by under-reported officials or subsequent events on the ground. Real reasons are many but usually include Business Interests, Access to Resources, Markets, Military Bases, Strategic Value, or Political Support.

The given reasons have evolved as the politics of the world has changed. Where it was once Communism then Fundamentalism, it is now Weapons or Terrorism.

All of this assumes that the USA has the unilateral right to dictate to other countries how they should run their political, religious, economic and cultural affairs. This is an assumption that is never challenged in the Western media.

The USA frequently interferes in nations' elections. At the same time it is against the law to interfere in USA elections. The USA often insists on countries having United Nations inspections for weapons programs while denying access for its own extensive chemical, nuclear and biological armoury. The USA will use the international legal system when it suits but ignore its resolutions if they go against the USA. This behaviour is reported around the world leading to much anger and resentment at the USA. Little of this gets reported to the USA public however.
The USA has, by far, bombed more countries than any other nation. Sometimes the United Nations approves. If it does not, the USA will bomb anyway. Many countries are subject to unilateral economic sanctions by the USA. Cuba is a good example. The USA will not only impose sanctions but often cajoles and bullies other countries to follow it. Again, the United Nations is used if possible, and ignored if not.

Much of the world feels like there is one law for the USA and its friends, another law for everyone else.

further, from the same site under "media":

The are five reasons why a balanced view of world events is not generally received in the Western media:

1 Media Ownership

Most newspapers, television and radio stations are owned by large and powerful multi-national companies.
In the USA, NBC and CBS (two television companies) are owned by corporations involved in arms manufacture and nuclear power (General Electric and Westinghouse). Several oil companies (Exxon, Texaco and Mobil) have seats on the boards of these news organisations. Time-Warner and CNN merged in the late 1990s to form one of the largest news and media monopolies in the world. Rupert Murdoch is the largest owner of television stations in the USA. Originally an Australian citizen, his American citizenship was "fast-tracked" by the Reagan administration to allow him to own television stations in the country.
Stories that highlight problems with nuclear power or waste, stories about oil companies involved with governments that violate human rights and stories about conflicts armed by Western companies are unlikely to be given much coverage. Stories that help the interests of the media owners are given prominence.
One man, John Malone, owns 23% of the world's cable stations. His Discovery Channel commissions programs after "market approval" and avoids "controversial subjects". The phrase "dumbing down" has entered the language as television concentrates on gossip and celebrity stories rather than serious issues.
In Australia Rupert Murdoch (him again) owns 7 out of the 12 national daily newspapers and 7 out of 10 Sunday newspapers. In one city, Adelaide, Murdoch owns all the newspapers. This cannot be good for pluralism.
In 1975, one of Murdoch's newspapers, The Australian, ran a campaign that helped remove the country's democratically elected government by the UK appointed Governor-General.
In the UK, News International (a company mostly owned by Rupert Murdoch) owns several newspapers (including The Times and The Sun), Sky Television (a major European satellite operator), Star Television (covering Asia) and publishers like Harper Collins.
In 1998, Rupert Murdoch owned 34% of the daily newspapers and 37% of the Sunday newspapers in the UK. He often uses the large resources of his multinational companies to lower the price of his newspapers in an attempt to put rival newspapers out of business. Successive UK governments have allowed his empire to grow in return for his media's support.
53% of UK newspaper and magazine distribution is controlled by just two companies, WH Smith and John Menzies. Smaller magazines (like the political and satirical Private Eye) can have (and have had) their distribution curtailed at the whim of these companies.
Europe often has more pluralistic laws than the English speaking world. In France, there are laws prohibiting any single organisation from controlling newspapers with more than 30% of the combined national and regional readership. In addition, all publications have a legal right of distribution. In Germany, minority shareholders can veto editorial decisions. In Sweden small independent newspapers are supported and financed by law. European aversion to monopolies is one reason why Murdoch's media are consistently anti-Europe.

Rupert Murdoch has used his media ownership to influence what information is made available to the public in order to protect his business interests (especially in Malaysia and China):
Articles had been written in The Times exposing the British (UK) government offering aid to Malaysia in return for them buying arms from the UK. The Times' editor was sacked after being told by Murdoch "the public are bored with Malaysia".
Murdoch removed the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) World Service Television from the Star Television package of television channels broadcast in China. The Chinese government had complained about the BBC's coverage of human rights in China. Shortly afterwards Murdoch signed a deal with the government's mouthpiece newspaper, the Peoples' Daily. He produced a documentary on his Star TV eulogising the Chinese ruler, Deng Xiaoping who had been in charge when Chinese troops killed thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators in Beijing's Tienanmen Square.
The last UK governor of Hong Kong, Chris Patten, was due to have a book published by the Murdoch owned Harper Collins. This book was critical of the Chinese government. Publication was stopped. Instead a biography of Deng Xiaoping (written by his daughter) was published.
The Sun and The Times newspapers are frequently publishing articles critical of the BBC (the UK's major television channels) and praising Sky Television (which he also owns). These newspapers are also very anti-Europe. Closer ties between the UK and Europe could affect the small amount of taxes that Murdoch's companies pay.
In 2004, the USA documentary film maker, Michael Moore, had problems with having his film distributed in the USA. The distributer was Miramax, owned by Disney. The latter did not want a controversial film criticising the USA president in an election year.
Cross-media ownership and the fact that a small number of people own so many of our means of obtaining information is a threat to a pluralistic society.

...
This past week Lou Dobbs of CNN, attacked Michelle Obama saying that "today was the first time in her adult life that she felt proud of her country."

What is the expression "pride goeth before a fall."

The problem with pride is that it gets in the way of ever seeing what needs repair, or perhaps having empathy for another's position. It offers up a blind loyalty to a concept that has been sadly lacking in its fulfillment to "all." There is no liberty and justice for all in America.
There is a one party system of the few, by the few for the few...and the law, and the rest of us be damned.

Thank heaven Michelle Obama SEES the real America, that alone offers hope.

The Surge at Operation Enduring Stupidity

We hear John McCain claiming "he" is the author of the latest debacle in Iraq, entitled "the surge."
Of course there is a complete news black out from Iraq so they can tell us whatever they want.

The facts:

The Surge was supposed to be a temporary increase in the number of US troops that would give the Iraqis time to reach political reconciliation between the Sunnis and the Shia. Once that political progress was made then the US could reduce the number of troops without the violence returning. If that political reconciliation has not happened, if we cannot reduce the number of troops without a return to violence then the Surge has NOT worked.

Yup the good ol "straight talk express" has not only had the wheels fall off but any "talk" is pretty much that of a recorded computer chip seemingly implanted in the head of John McCain.

Is John McCain at home? He seems devoid of soul. The moment he moves to the mike, he slips into this dead-pan drone that would bore a
bee off a seemingly fresh victim. What the hell happened to the guy who told the religious right that their intolerance was no more acceptable than anyone elses?
Where did that straight talkin guy go?
Good grief even his body is rebelling, stiffening into a tortured old man doing everything contrary to his very essence or sense of being, while he charges forth repeating history,
biting back the bile of groveling to Bush while his wife looks at the floor.

Hey John, the surge is NOT working. The invasion of Iraq is illegal, immoral and genocidal. It is quite simply a WAR CRIME. To PLAN to be there for 100 years I am quite certain is another war crime - especially to plan a war of that length.

John McCain is the antithesis of hope.
He appears to be another paid off Bushite, willing to do anything to cover the tracks of one of the most criminal U.S. families in the history of the Democracy. Did you know that Prescott Bush attempted a coup to assassinate FDR, and wanted Smedley Butler to lead a group to do it...but Butler turned him in? (Please run your own search...it is all in the archives. The Bush crime family is above the law).

The ONLY successful surge at Operation Enduring Stupidity is the
coverup of the ongoing scandals that would have beseiged a democratic White House. But the law only applies to Democrats and certainly not the Bush family.

While a criminal media continues to cover up sixty years of fascism and trading with the enemy, this dubious democracy stumbles on seemingly unable to prosecute and hold accountable the most criminal presidency in history.

Grand Old White Party Verses Obama

We could not have had a more stark comparison the other night when Barack Obama had just given a rousing speech after handily winning four states with more than a 20% margin in each.

Some comments from Frank Rich that had me giggling most of the day yesterday.

Op-Ed Columnist
The Grand Old White Party Confronts Obama By FRANK RICH
Published: February 17, 2008

THE curse continues. Regardless of party, it’s hara-kiri for a politician to step into the shadow of even a mediocre speech by Barack Obama.

Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times
Frank Rich

Senator Obama’s televised victory oration celebrating his Chesapeake primary trifecta on Tuesday night was a mechanical rehash. No matter. When the networks cut from the 17,000-plus Obama fans cheering at a Wisconsin arena to John McCain’s victory tableau before a few hundred spectators in the Old Town district of Alexandria, Va., it was a rerun of what happened to Hillary Clinton the night she lost Iowa. Senator McCain, backed by a collection of sallow-faced old Beltway pols, played the past to Mr. Obama’s here and now. Mr. McCain looked like a loser even though he, unlike Senator Clinton, had actually won

But he has it even worse than Mrs. Clinton. What distinguished his posse from Mr. Obama’s throng was not just its age but its demographic monotony: all white and nearly all male. Such has been the inescapable Republican brand throughout this campaign, ever since David Letterman memorably pegged its lineup of presidential contenders last spring as “guys waiting to tee off at a restricted country club.”

(Here we have McCain slobbering all over the most hated president in the history of the world. It really instills confidence that McCain might be different (not). )

For Mr. McCain, this albatross may be harder to shake than George W. Bush and Iraq, particularly in a faceoff with Mr. Obama. When Mr. McCain jokingly invoked the Obama slogan “I am fired up and ready to go” in his speech Tuesday night, it was as cringe-inducing as the white covers of R & B songs in the 1950s — or Mitt Romney’s stab at communing with his inner hip-hop on Martin Luther King’s birthday. Trapped in an archaic black-and-white newsreel, the G.O.P. looks more like a nostalgic relic than a national political party in contemporary America. A cultural sea change has passed it by.

(While John McCain stays locked in the age old Nazi GOP strategy of war for profit and greed masked as freedom, while they destroy any democracy at home)

As some Republicans drift away in a McCain-Obama race, who fills the vacuum? Among the white guys flanking Mr. McCain at his victory celebration on Tuesday, revealingly enough, was the once-golden George Allen, the Virginia Republican who lost his Senate seat and presidential hopes in 2006 after being caught on YouTube calling a young Democratic Indian-American campaign worker “macaca.”
In that incident, Mr. Allen added insult to injury by also telling the young man, “Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia.” As election results confirmed both in 2006 and last week, it is Mr. Allen who is the foreigner in 21st century America, Mr. Allen who is in the minority in the real world of Virginia. A national rout in 2008 just may be that Republican Party’s last stand.

The complete article may be found at: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/17/opinion/17rich.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin

Hmm...routing Republicans, the parallel to the American nazi party, what a treat THAT would be and nothing would show the world more profoundly exactly how Americans feel and think.
Let's start with voting them ALL out of office, every single one of them who would not enforce the law and impeach the criminal, lying, cheating, treasonous administration placed in office by a criminal Supreme Court. THEN let us examine the cretins placed on the court by Republican mafia members who then depend on them for future fascist choices. Judges placed by criminals should not be sitting on the bench.
